Brendan McGovern

Brendan McGovern is a Partner and Head of Direct Lending at 26North.

Prior to joining 26North in 2022, Brendan was a Partner and Head of the Private Credit Group at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he chaired the Private Credit Group’s Investment Committee. He was also the Co-Head of the Goldman Sachs Asset Management Credit Alternatives investment team. At Goldman Sachs, Brendan launched and led the firm’s Business Development Company (“Goldman Sachs BDC” or “GSBD”) platform, as President and CEO of Goldman Sachs BDC and four other private BDCs. Under Brendan’s leadership, GSAM’s private credit assets under management, including BDCs and institutional funds grew to $12 billion.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 2006, Brendan served as a Managing Director in the Global Investment Group at Amaranth Advisors, where he focused on a variety of corporate credit investment opportunities, including private placements of debt and equity-linked securities, stressed and distressed investing and merger arbitrage.

Brendan received a BS from Villanova University and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Brendan is a member of the Board of Directors for MN8 Energy, one of the largest independent solar energy producers in the United States. He serves on the Board of Directors at the Oxalosis and Hyperoxaluria Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on a rare liver and kidney disease striking children.
